Description

Whitney Brothers Color Wheel acrylic shapes are light table shapes in the six colors of the color wheel: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Each piece is 5.5 in across and 1/8 in thick, with smooth edges. Choose sets of six circles, six squares or six triangles, or the Variety Pack with all three shapes in every color. You can order one set or several. On a light table the colors glow, and where two pieces overlap a new color appears. The shapes are made in the US by Whitney Brothers and are GREENGUARD Gold certified.

How These Light Table Shapes Work

The shapes are colored acrylic that lets light through. Laid on a lit surface, each piece glows in its own color. Lay a yellow piece over a blue one and the overlap turns green. Red over yellow gives orange, and red over blue gives purple. Children see how colors combine without paint, brushes or clean-up.

The six colors follow the color wheel. Red, yellow and blue are the primary colors, and orange, green and purple are the secondary colors you can make by overlapping them. With one piece of each, a child can build the whole wheel on the table and then check each secondary color by stacking the two primaries that make it.

These light table shapes also work without a light table. On a window sill or held up to daylight they still show color, and on a regular table they serve for sorting, matching and pattern work.

Choose Your Set of Light Table Shapes

All four options use the same colors, size and thickness. The difference is the shape and how many pieces you get. Select one option or several in the same order, for example circles for color mixing plus a Variety Pack for a second table.

  • Circles, 6 per set (WB7724C). One circle in each color. Round pieces overlap in soft arcs, which suits color-mixing work.
  • Squares, 6 per set (WB7724S). One square in each color. Squares line up edge to edge for grids, patterns and simple pictures.
  • Triangles, 6 per set (WB7724T). One triangle in each color. Triangles combine into larger shapes, stars and tessellations.
  • Variety Pack, 18 pieces (WB7780). Circles, squares and triangles in all six colors. If you want all three shapes, choose it instead of three separate sets.

Which Light Tables They Fit

Whitney Brothers lists these light table shapes for use with its LED light tables and light boxes. They fit every model we carry:

A 5.5 in piece leaves plenty of room on any of these tops, so two or three children can work side by side. They also suit most other light panels and light boxes. Our light tables for kids collection compares all five models.

Where They Work Best

  • Preschool and pre-K classrooms. A ready set of materials for the light table center.
  • Kindergarten and early elementary. Color mixing, shape names and simple geometry.
  • Daycare centers. Large pieces that are easy for small hands to pick up and move.
  • Libraries and museums. A drop-in activity on a light box in a children's area.
  • Sensory rooms and therapy spaces. Calm, focused work with color and light.
  • Homeschool rooms. Color and shape lessons on a light box at the kitchen table.

Activities With Light Table Shapes

Start with color mixing: give a child the three primary colors and ask which new colors they can make. Sorting comes next, by color, by shape or by both. Children can copy a pattern card, continue a pattern a teacher starts, or build a picture such as a house from a square and a triangle. Two children can play a matching game, one laying a shape and the other finding the same color in a different shape. Tracing around the pieces on paper laid over a light box turns them into drawing templates. Many teachers put out one set at a time and add the next shape later, so the light table shapes keep offering something new.

A light table corner pairs well with wall play. Set it near a wall of sensory wall panels, so children can move between the lit table and hands-on panels in the same space.

Safety and Care

Use the light table shapes indoors with adult supervision. Check the pieces now and then and remove any piece with a chipped or damaged edge.

Wipe the pieces with a soft cloth and a little mild soap and water, then dry them. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, ammonia and alcohol, which can scratch or cloud acrylic. Store the set flat in a box or tray to keep the surfaces clear.

Frequently Asked Questions About Color Wheel Light Table Shapes

How many pieces are in each set?

Circles, squares and triangles come in sets of six, one piece in each color. The Variety Pack has 18 pieces: all three shapes in all six colors. You can select one option or several in one order.

Do I need a light table to use them?

No. They work on a regular table for sorting and patterns, or against a bright window. On a light table or light box the colors glow and color mixing is easier to see.

Will they fit a light table from another brand?

Usually yes. Each piece is a flat 5.5 in shape, so it works on any light table or light panel with a flat lit top.

Which colors are included?

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, the six colors of the color wheel.

Can I buy them with a light table?

Yes. Add a set to your light table order, or ask us for a quote that covers both. They ship from Whitney Brothers, and lead time is confirmed with your order.

Can schools order with a purchase order?

Yes. We accept purchase orders, tax-exempt certificates and ACH bank transfers. Lead time and shipping are confirmed with your quote.
