Custom Hand-Painted Sensory Wall Panels

Somewhere in our workshop, someone is mixing a color to match a swatch a customer sent us. That's what "hand-painted" means here: a real person paints your custom sensory wall panel by hand, in a color you choose. It isn't pulled off a shelf. Once the paint is dry, we seal it under a safe, water-based lacquer. The color holds. The surface wipes clean for years. Hand-painted is one of three finishes we offer, alongside printed finish and natural wooden finish, on every busy board and sensory wall panel we make.

The paint is what a visitor notices first. What actually keeps a child busy is underneath it: latches, gears, zips, sliders. Every one is fixed down firmly, so little hands can't pry it loose. A panel earns its place on the wall because of what a child can do with it, not just how it looks.

The painter's part

Every order starts as plain birch plywood. A painter applies your chosen color by hand, before any activities go on. Once the paint has fully cured, we seal the whole panel under a water-based lacquer topcoat — the same protective layer used across all three of our finishes. That lacquer does the real work day to day. It's what keeps the surface wipe-clean, whether one child uses it at home or thirty children touch it a week at school.

A painter works best with a color, not a detailed picture. If you actually want a scene — animals, a landscape, a night sky — printed finish will get you there more cleanly. If you'd rather skip color and let the wood grain show, that's wooden finish.

Matching a color you already have

You're not choosing from a fixed set of swatches. Send us a Pantone reference, a paint chip, or just describe the color — "the same blue as our logo" works fine. We'll match it as closely as the lacquer topcoat allows. It's the same process behind our branded-color panel sets, and it works for one panel or a full wall. What it's made of

Birch plywood. Non-toxic, water-based paint. A non-toxic, water-based lacquer topcoat. Nothing solvent-based touches the panel at any stage. Every mechanism is bolted down securely. Every edge is sanded smooth before it ships — the kind of detail that's easy to skip and hard to notice until it's missing. At home, matching the paint to a nursery or playroom wall is usually the whole point. It stops looking like a toy left in the room and starts looking like it was built for it.
